Condolence From: Catherine MacInnes/Malcolm Johnson
Condolence: Dearest John (Jocko),
It wasn’t supposed to be this way. Malcolm is inconsolable. We were supposed to move to KW when my Mother passed and you and he were supposed to begin a new chapter in your long friendship. The comments thus far have been consistent; kind, gentle, patient, generous, knowledgeable. I concur with everything. If there is any justice to be had at all in this miserable world, you are in a much, much better place. R.I.P. gentle man. Catherine

Condolence: How to put into a few words the great loss we are feeling.

John, it was inspirational being around you and your unwavering enthusiasm for life.

All the music: Blues, Jazz, Pop, Rock, Country, Singer-songwriter. It was all there. And you everything about everything.

Add to this all the years spent at Now and Then Books, at the Kitchener Rangers games, at Spaenaur, and I realize I only knew a fraction of your life.

You lived life to its fullest each and every day, and you were always generous with your time.

John, we miss you.

Condolence: Although we had too few conversations over the years, every one was memorable. Whether it was music or Canadian Wartime comic books, John was incredibly knowledgeable in his quiet and modest way. Our deepest condolences to John's family and friends.

Condolence: I got to know John when I worked at Now and Then Books as a teenager in the 1980s. He was extraordinarily patient and generous in sharing his comics knowledge and music with with me. By conversing with me as an adult an peer, he made a lasting impression even though cumulatively I probably spent only hours in his company. It was only much later that learned of his contributions at the begining of Canadian comics fandom. I saw him only a couple of times in recent years but his visits to my own shop were always a treat.

Condolence: In almost 30 years of knowing John, we had many great discussions when it came to music. It was a passion we both shared. He was a quiet guy, so kind and thoughtful. He wasn't a big talker, but when he did speak, you listened...and soaked up his knowledge. I will sadly miss those conversations John and I hope they play music for you in heaven.
